“One Day”

At Lincoln’s Project Homeless Connect 2011, guests and volunteers were graced with the premier performance of a song titled “One Day” – which was written both in honor of the event and in honor of those who struggle in homelessness daily throughout our nation. The song is meaningful for anyone working within the broad field of homelessness prevention.

The talented songwriter is John Turner, Lincoln’s Region V Systems HPRP case management supervisor, the 2012 Lincoln Homeless Coalition Chair, and a Commissioner of the Nebraska Commission on Housing and Homelessness.

John, who performs under the name Honeyboy Turner, and fellow musician, Harvey Brindell, provided five hours of entertainment at Project Homeless Connect. It was a special treat for guests to be able to sit, enjoy a meal, and listen to the blues.

One Day
Music and Lyrics by John “Honeyboy” Turner
Spoken word lyrics by Chris Webster

One Day
People come together
One day
To make a change
One day
Leads the way
One day is today

We all know the importance
We all understand the truth
That this has got to end
Its right in front of our eyes we don’t need any proof

All of us can see the problems we face
All of us can join in one central place

They all live without
In all of these places
We’ve all see it before
No names and no faces
Some look away and some resist
But here we are today, it still exists

One day
People come together
One day
To make a change
One day
Leads the way

One day
People come together
One day
To make a change
One day
You can join us
That day is today
